Top tips how to hang nursery wall art

So you’ve made your choice and bought some amazing nursery wall art. Now you’re standing and drilling the wall with your eyes wondering where and how to hang your nursery wall art?

1. Decide on when you want your kid to see the art

What is the purpose of this particular nursery wall art that you have? A good-night wall art should be visible from your kid’s bed. An wall art encouraging to play nice or explore - visible from the play corner.

2. To drill or not to drill

Do not overthink. If drilling machine is not your favourite tool, and there’s no one around to help you out, use a masking tape. A plain black one or the fancy polka dot one - it’s your choice. It might be a temporary solution or a permanent one. No commitment to the holes in the wall might be quite liberating. And no frames needed. Another amazing option is to choose a frame hanging system with wire and adjustable hooks. This gives freedom in arranging wall art however you like and changing the height of frames as a child grows.

3. To mat or not to mat

The white mat usually enhances the print and adds some oomph, especially for tiny prints. Bigger prints (from 8”x10”) benefit from it too. So if you’re choosing to frame nursery wall art, consider frames with white mat. My personal favourite black frames with white mats are Ikea’s Ribba and Marietorp. I remove glass before hanging them because many unexpected things can happen in a toddler’s room. Or hang Fiskbo frames which has a plastic front protection instead of glass. it doesn’t have white mat though, but you can easily cut it yourself from a white cardboard.

4. How high?

If your kid is still just a baby, consider hanging the art out of reach of these tiny hands. However, a 4-year-old is already mature enough to appreciate his nursery wall art in a more civilized way. So it makes sense hanging the wall art with its focal point at the eye level of your toddler. It might seem too low for you at first. But soon you’ll notice it gives a warm feeling this is definitely a room for the tiny humans.
